Cinderella
I recently read the following by Kiera Cass: “Cinderella never asked for a prince. She asked for a night off and a dress.”
Cinderella never imagined going to the ball and being sought after by the prince. I doubt her imagination could have brought her to a place where she could even conceive of the notion of becoming his bride and thus a princess. She had no expectation other than going to the ball as all the young maidens were told to do. Her stepsisters however did have expectations of what the night would entail. They saw themselves as possible princesses. They were sorely disappointed.
One lesson in this fairy-tale is that when we have expectations and they are not lived out in our reality, we become angry, depressed, heartbroken. While when we take life as it is, we will not set ourselves up for undo heartbreak. It is ok and even healthy to look forward to things. It is ok and healthy to be hopeful and to envision a path for our future. But when we have an expectation where our vision will absolutely become reality, and in the manner in which we have conjured it in our minds, well that is where we go astray.
We all can benefit from a vision and the goals to achieve this vision. Being open though to changes and opportunities and even learning from failures and disappointments will allow us a direction sprinkled with reality!
Wishing your path isn’t hindered by expectations but has sprinkles of reality!
