On the intake form for my mental health practice, I ask about the person’s physical health. I ask about their sleeping habits, exercise and eating. Why is that import to a mental health counselor? Because the body and mind are intricately related and entwined!

Have you ever experienced a headache when you are stressed or a stomach ache when you are anxious? Do you start sweating when you are nervous? Or have you gotten anxious waiting for some medical results? These are only a couple of examples of how our mind and body work together and have an impact on each other.

I share this with you because I hope everyone takes time to do some reflection when you notice either physical or mental systems. You are likely to go to the doctor when you encounter physical symptoms and for a yearly check up. There is no stigma for seeing a doctor but often people hesitate to seek a professional with mental pain. Again, remember, body and mind interaction? Well, we need to pay attention and treat both with equal value.

Wishing you a path full of health in mind and body!
