Yesterday was Martin Luther King Day and that lead me to think about freedom. He fought for equality and the freedom from racial distinctions. While maybe not as extreme as racial discrimination, there are other barriers to freedom that block all of us. Maybe you encounter gender discrimination; or have a fear of pursuing your dream because of what others may think; or are required to dress or talk or act within the expected norm. Anything that holds us back from being our authentic self is a challenge to our freedom to just be ourselves.
So what does freedom mean to you? What would be different in your life if you were able to be free to be you? I’m not talking about doing anything illegal or harmful to others, but rather to be free to pursue what brings you joy without any judgement or discrimination from others.
Sometimes the freedom we seek is just beyond our reach. Maybe we need to challenge the system, or merely speak up; maybe we need to build our confidence to more forward.
Freedom can take many forms, emotional, physical, educational, economic and so forth. So whatever freedom looks like for you, give yourself permission to go beyond whatever keeps you stuck in place. Seek your freedom and see where it takes you.
May you find freedom along your path.
