What are you Celebrating?
The Merriam-Webster Dictionay defines “celebration” as to do something special or enjoyable for an important event, occasion, holiday, etc. : to praise (someone or something) : to say that (someone or something) is great or important. We find ourselves celebrating birthdays, holidays, graduations, births, memorials, retirements and just about anything else we can think of to note a special occasion. These are all important milestones in our lives. To let them pass without recognition is to devalue the achievement. We NEED to celebrate! Life is hard, we encounter bumps and even mountains in our way. So when we have an opportunity to celebrate-we need to do so!
I also believe it is important to celebrate each new day. Each new day is filled with new opportunities. We can put yesterday behind us and start with a clean new slate! Think of it this way-each step is progress toward an achievement and each day is progress toward a new birthday, so let’s celebrate!
So often we get caught up with our busy lives and everyday struggles that we forget to see the importance of celebrating the progress and milestones. The struggle overshadows the joy. Don’t let these go by without a celebration. So maybe the progress celebration is just an acknowledgement with a smile. But take note! Maybe the birthday, holiday or graduation (it is the season!) is celebrated with a card, a phone call, a party! No matter what degree of celebration, recognize the importance (as in Merriam-Webster’s definition). Find the joy.
May you find the celebration, big and small, in each new day as you journey along your path.
