Recently I was reflecting on times I had failed and realized most often it was out of careless disregard versus an intentional behavior.  That got me to further reflect upon our intentions-good and bad-and whether we purposely set a course or merely slip up because we are distracted, something else becomes a priority or a myriad of other excuses.

Whether your intent is framed as a New Year’s resolution, a goal, a change, or any other verbiage indicating you want to make a change in your life, the mere intent is not enough.  There needs to be purposeful direction behind the intent.  Otherwise it will become carelessly left behind with the other things that bombard our attention each day.

So if you have a specific intention (lose weight, learn a new language, go back to school, find an new job, finish a project, and so on) make sure you build in the steps to success and accomplishment.   For example you might say you intend to be kind to your elderly neighbor but unless you DO something to show kindness your intent vanishes into thin air.  Unless you actually do the work, the thought is pointless.  While the idea, concept and intent needs to come first, it must be followed by action.

So declare your intentions, that is the first step, but follow with an action plan and your success will be plentiful!

May you path be full of directions toward your intent!
