Several months ago I experienced the loss of my constant companion and source of unconditional love – my Havanese dog Cloe. While I have a wonderful husband and three grown children, all whom I love and am loved in return, the loss was deep. She was the only one to great me at the door with love and cuddles. She was the one to give me a sad look when I left her. When I was upset, she sat close. And never did she talk back or argue!
Next week, I will be getting another puppy to love and cuddle. While the puppy love, cuddles and kisses will warm my heart, there is a mental health benefit as well. As a counselor, I am confident in my ability to leave my clients’ struggles in the office, but regardless, they do take a toll. The ever present, unconditional love of a puppy relieves any stress I might carry home. Those kisses and cuddles provide comfort and love.
While I am not saying a puppy will take away all the problems of the world, they sure bring comfort! And when someone needs a little “pick me up,” or comfort, or that unconditional love, a dog or any other pet can provide that mental health boost!
May your path be filled with puppy love, kisses and cuddles!
