When I was growing up, my mom read me fairy tales. Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty taught me that you need to work hard, there are bad things in life, but in the end, I would get to marry a prince and live happily ever after! While Grace Kelly and Megan Markle did get to marry a prince, that isn’t likely for most of us!
The tragedies, traumas and trials that those fairy tales suggested though are likely to be present at some point in our lives. While they may not look like an evil stepmother, evil witch, or other scary character, we are likely to have challenges and disappointments. And how we meet and journey through those times will reflect how happily we endure.
Getting up and being able to survive and thrive amidst tragedy and trials is called resilience. And many of those long-ago characters had resilience. They did not give up. So maybe that is the real lesson!
So often we do expect to live happily ever after. We can live happily and yet we should also assume and maybe even expect some bumps along the way. When we encounter those challenges, we may experience physical and/or mental pain, and after going through that, we can get back up. When we rise, we will be stronger and wiser. We just need to keep moving forward.
When you encounter challenges along your path, meet them and move past them with resilience!
