Have you ever seen a robin’s nest with baby birds? The mama bird brings food to her babies and keeps them safe and warm. But eventually she recognizes the time when they need to take flight and be on their own. Of course these babies are used to the safe, warm environment where they are fed and cared for. I can only imagine some resistance to leaving the nest. From their point of view there is a long route down! They are facing the unknown. And what if they can’t fly? And why is their mama pushing them out of the nest?
Isn’t there many times in our lives where we feel like we are being pushed out of the nest? Maybe it was the first time you drove a car all on your own, or went away to college or moved into your own residence. Maybe it was when you started your first job or when you committed yourself to that one special person. You were faced with the possibility of either falling or flying! These are the times where you take a chance on yourself. Sure you could mess it up or not succeed, but you won’t know until you try. By trying you have already set yourself up to fly!
While life might present us with options or even leave us with limited options, I hope you choose to fly and not fall. What I mean is that when faced with life’s choices and challenges, we can either face them with our head held high and take a chance on OURSELVES or allow circumstances or other people to place us in a spot where we will shrivel up and be miserable.
So as you journey along your path may you find yourself soaring!
