Changing Seasons…

March 21st is the first day of Spring.  I live in Illinois.  I did not notice any changes from March 20 to 21.  While there are birds chirping, patches of green grass and a few flower stems trying to break through the hard dry ground, winter is still in the air.  The sky is still grey and ominous.  This week’s forecast includes snow.  Spring is here on paper only!

While we may not be experiencing all the benefits of Spring at this moment, I also know they are coming.  More and more green grass appears each day.  While nowhere near blooming, I see the beginnings of the spring flowers growing taller each day.  While I am still wearing my winter coat, there have been a few days when I wore a spring jacket.  The changes are in progress, slowly but none-the-less present.

The process of the change of seasons is a lot like the process of changes in our lives.  Springtime is a popular time for weddings.  One doesn’t just wake up one day and say I’m going to get married today.  There is a time of building a relationship, commitment and the planning of the wedding.  One cannot wake up one day and say they have become a marathon runner overnight.  They must train and build up their endurance.  We don’t just decide to be a college graduate without putting in years of study.  Recovery from grief or an addiction; relief from the stress of a new job or a new baby; or adjusting to a move to a new town all take time.  Changes take time.  It is a process.

With the anticipation of knowing that Spring will come in full force given time, know that the changes you encounter in your life too will come about within an unspecified time-frame.  Look for the small movement of change.

May your path be filled with springtime changes, slow but steady!
