In today’s fast pasted culture, we want instant answers, instant coffee, instant everything.  We are always multi-tasking.  We have trouble sleeping.  We often feel overwhelmed and pulled in a million directions.  Wow, I’m exhausted just writing that.  I felt my blood pressure rise and heart beat faster.

So now that I recognize the frenzy, what can I do?

Take a deep breath, filling my lungs to capacity.  Hold for a moment.  Then I release the air all the way down to my belly.  Repeat…   Repeat again…

My body has relaxed, my mind is cleared, breathing and heart rates have returned to normal.

I have a sense of peace and calm and more clearly focus on what is before me.  We can all benefit from this deep breathing exercise when life gets hectic.  It grounds us in the present and pushes aside any anxiety.
