When I was in grade school, who my teacher was and which friends were in my class was very important to me; as was my parent’s approval.  When I was in high school, who had the same lunch period and who could drive was important.  In college, making new friends was important.  As a young mother, my children’s health and happiness was all that mattered.

Looking back at my life so far, there does seem to be a theme as to what has been important to me.  It’s the people in my life.  But looking a little deeper to the day to day moments of what is important, I realize I was often distracted and led off course.  I can envision myself rushing around (often in circles!) trying to “get things done”.  School deadlines, work deadlines, having clean clothes and groceries-yes they are all important.  But people are too!  I don’t think I would be alone looking back and realizing now that I put the “stuff” in my life over the people in my life too often to count!  Carving out 5 minutes in my day to call a friend to catch up or sending a card to my mom to brighten her day, well those are the “little” things that really keep me on track of who I am and who I want to be.

We live in a fast paced society.  People are rushing around.  Most of us have too many commitments.  But let’s not let that distract us from who we are and what is really important!

May you live your life on a path that shows what is important to you!
