Have you heard of the expression “It’s a jungle out there.” The implication is that the world is filled with predators, and unknown dangers. Many do view themselves in a competition within their environment, especially when it comes to business! I find that to be very sad.
As a business owner, I am a member of several referral groups. We meet a couple times a month and refer prospective new business to each other. In other words, we are supporting each other and encouraging each other’s business growth. No competition, just support.
It is amazing how being supportive of another will have an impact on you. Not just in the business realm but the personal as well. Think about how a smile to or from a stranger walking down the street can change your mood. Think about how a hug from a friend can lighten the burden. Think about how a card offering peace can offer hope. We are not alone. We need to reach out and support each other. Together we are stronger. Together we are wiser. Together we are united.
When I consider the world around me, I hear of political unrest and threats of nuclear attacks. There are racial prejudices within our own country. There are disrespectful exchanges. Now stop and consider how different all these circumstances would be if we were looking at each other as friends. Would our words be different; our tone be different; our goal be different?
Maybe we won’t be able to do anything about the global discontention, or even within our country, but we can make a difference in our own communities. Shop local. Smile at strangers. Support and encourage each other.
