Now or Later?  When do You Relax?

We live in a fast paced society.  Instant gratification is expected.  We often find ourselves pulled and pushed in a million different directions.   Do you feel overwhelmed just reading this?  If so take a deep breath in and exhale deeply.  Repeat.  Let your shoulders relax; let your face loosen up; let yourself sink into your chair.  Feel better?  Feel relaxed?

Many are so busy they never take a moment to relax.  Some people think that when they just finish (fill in the blank) they will be able to relax.  Others hold off on relaxation until their scheduled vacation, or worse yet don’t even take a vacation.

Research indicates that if we do give ourselves time to relax, whether it be in the form of mini moments of relaxation to full fledged vacations, we will feel recharged, re-energized and become more productive.  All too often we do not honor the research, even when our body screams at us to take a break.

I was recently in a meeting where someone, who barely knows me, commented that it seemed like I had a million bees buzzing over my head-meaning my mind was off in a million directions.  After reflection, I realized he was point on!  Sadly I do not think I am alone.  So I am asking you to join me in taking a moment…a moment to relax.  Take that deep breath.  Relax you body and mind.  Center yourself.  We all need to find a moment.  Relax.

May your path find you taking mini moments of relaxation daily, and longer times of relaxation as often as possible!  (As for me, I’m off to the beach later this week!)
