I recently was listening to a man talk about what motivated him to stop smoking: his grandson saw him smoking and thought he looked cool. My own mom stopped smoking when she landed in the hospital, had lost about 50 pounds and was put on oxygen. She never had another cigarette from that day forward. That got me thinking about what does motivate people to make changes?
Sometimes, just a desire to accomplish something is enough to motivate. Other times, a life altering event is the catalyst. Certainly encouragement from our family members, or friends, or people we respect, are factors.
Ultimately though I believe it is from deep within ourselves that a desire builds until it breaks through in a burst of energy. It is then a spark that begins with the first action toward change. The sparks grows until a flame of changes takes root and become a stable path to follow.
Another element to motivation is passion. When we have a deep connection and joy to what we want to change, we are more inclined to make the changes, that become habits that become a new reality.
What will motivate me, will be different than what will motivate. So find your passion, your spark, and take a step toward the change you want to see!
May your find your motivation to lead you on your path!
